The Feast of the Redeemer is a traditional Venetian feast celebrated on the third Sunday of July by a pilgrimage on the island of Giudecca.
This event reminds the construction of the basilica dedicated to the Christ Redeemer to release the city of the plague in 1576.
Beyond the religious demonstrations, the festival is celebrated with a large spectacle of fireworks which is held in the night from Saturday to Sunday, followed by dances and songs.
The tradition wants that one finds oneself on the beach of the Lido to waiting the dawn.
The following day, there are regattas of Venetian gondolas.
A large bridge of boats is prepared on the Channel of Giudecca to join the Church of the Redeemer, where the pilgrimage concludes the festivities.
