Festa veneziana - Venetian Feast
A great animated festival coloured in Cannaregio district, nautical parades,tasting of gastronomical specialities of the district.

Carnavale al buoi 2009 - Carnival of the darkness 2009
A feast of the Carnival in the darkness, where all the other senses, in particular the touch, are the protagonists. Inspired by the success of the exposure “Dialogue in the darkness” which received visitors from the whole world. Groups are accompanied by blind guides expert on a course full of surprises.
From Saturday February 14, every day, 11:00 - 20:00

Contest for the most beautiful mask for the children
Until to 12 years, it is held from Monday February 16 in all the city, islands and municipalities.

Handing-over of the prices for the most beautiful masks. Saturday February 21, 15:00
Flight of the angel
One of the most awaited appointments of the Carnival, an old tradition where a special guest “flies” from the Bell-tower until the ground of San Marco square.

Festa Marie - Festival of Marie
During the day of the Carnival dedicated to the traditions, the San Marco square accommodates the unavoidable Festival of Maria.
Seven Venetian girls parade with a coloured and rich cortège in traditional costumes, and accompanied by traditional groups. The Procession leaves Saint Peter of the Castle (San Pietro in Castello) to arrive on San Marco square.
The victorious Marie is rewarded on Tuesday February 24.

Historical evocations (Rievocazioni storiche)
With the Flight of the Angel and the Festival of Maria, the day of the traditions proposes the traditional Festival and artists of the road, fills of colours, dances, stage performances of the old habits on Square San Marco, then changing, with new performances and new groups, the next week end.

Dorsoduro and music
Dorsoduro accomodates the musical initiatives and the sound installations of Sensation 2009. A permanent show in the afternoon by ALL MUSIC is installed in Campo Santa Margherita, while Stazione Maritima becomes the center of musical night recreation.
Sessions of medieval music and traditional acoustics proceed on the other hand in Campo San Barnaba.

San Polo, la Vista per I bambini e i giovanni - San Polo, sight for the children and young people
Campo San Polo and Campo Bella Vienna are the two hearts of the district. The first place of carnival dedicated to the children, with lights, comic masks and spectacles on Campo San Polo. Belle Vienna lives after the sunset, with music, lights and projections.

Santa Croce and sense of smell
In Santa Croce district in 2009, thanks to several installations and new initiatives, is a large spectacle of street theatre devoted to the sense of smell. It gives homage to this sense thanks to special effects like odorama. Many small remarkable spectacles are held in all the district, really based on the stimulation of sense of smell for a true sensory experiment.

Drag Queen beauty Pageant
From all Europe arrive at Venice most beautiful Drag Queen. The true spirit of the Carnival, taste for the disguise and irony, with amusing and coloured beauty contest.

The most beautiful mask of the Carnival 2009
Challenge with blows of masks, costumes never seen, taste and originality are the heart of the new contest of 2009, even richer.
The participants and their creations are judged by a prestigious jury.

Flight of the ass
The demonstration which is held Ferretto square in Mestre is one amusing parody of the Flight of the angel in San Marco square.
